SolutionWorx incorporates six (6) Core Values into its business model: Honesty, Trust, Listening, Integrity, Care, and Respect. We will be focusing on a different core value each month for the next several months and define areas where we include these values into our business. Today we are launching this series with Honesty.
Honesty hon•es•ty \ˈä-nəs-tē\ – as defined in the Merriam Dictionary as a noun that means – as the quality of being fair and truthful: the quality of being honest. Dictonary.com expands the definition to include the quality or fact of being honest, uprightness and fairness; truthfulness, sincerity, or frankness; freedom from deceit or fraud.
Everyone knows the story of Pinocchio that when he would lie, his nose would grow. Well, maybe it is a good thing noses don’t grow when people lie because the average person lies about 11 times a day and will slip in at least two dishonesties in a 10-minute conversation?¹
Most likely you have heard the statement, “Honesty is the best policy”. How committed are you to that principle? Even though honesty seems to be a trait we look for in a person and would like as a characteristic for ourselves, I don’t think anyone is 100% honest. Honesty can take on many types of personas. Maybe you are one that doesn’t lie deliberately but more likely to tell a “white lie”, or maybe you don’t even realize you lie frequently, maybe you stretch the truth a little to make that story sound better, while others, lying is just second nature and normal. Plus, it is more work to keep track of your lies than it is just to tell the truth. Abraham Lincoln summed it up with “No man has a good enough memory to be a successful liar”.
Being dishonest may also play a significant role in your health. When a person is honest, it makes them feel good about themselves and creates trust with others. It improves your relationships with everyone. In addition, by telling the truth, you may be able to lower your risk of sore throats, headaches, nausea, tension, and colds.
